Wondering what is FAQ Schema? Want to implement FAQ Schema in your site to get more organic traffic from Google? In this article, we will see everything about FAQ Schema and how to add it to your site.
What is FAQ Schema?
On May 08, 2019, Google introduced a new FAQ Structured Data feature known as the FAQ Schema markup. It is to help users quickly find answers to frequently asked questions. When you have implemented FAQ Schema markup in your site’s pages, it tells Google that your page has content presented in a question and answer format.
When a search query related to the content on your page is searched in Google, your page can be displayed in FAQ Rich Snippet format in Google search results.
FAQ Schema is also created to show quick results for people searching for how-to’s in Google search and voice search via Google Assistant. When the FAQ Schema is added webpages also have priority in search results.
By using FAQPage structured data, you can make your content eligible to display these questions and answers to display directly on Google Search and the Assistan.t.
This is what Google says about FAQ Schema,
By using FAQPage structured data, you can make your content eligible to display these questions and answers to display directly on Google Search and the Assistant
Note: FAQ Schema is only for official questions and answers; don’t add FAQ structured data on forums or other pages where your users can submit answers to questions. If you have such page you can use the Q&A Page markup.
FAQ Schema for Google Voice Search:
According to Statista, by 2026, the global shipment of smart home devices, including smart speakers, is projected to reach over 1.4 billion units
As smart speaker sales are increasing the volume of voice search in Google Assistant is also increasing. How-to’s and FAQ type questions are the commonly searched things in voice searches. So it is important that you implement FAQ schema to get quality traffic from voice searches.
FAQ Rich Snippet
A snippet is a result that Google shows to the user on the search results page. Usually, Google shows the Domain, Page Title, and Description in the snippet. A Rich Result or Rich Snippet is a search result with additional info such as Star rating, Price, and more.
If the Rich result shows Questions and Answers in collapsible for then it is known as FAQ Rich Snippet.
When it was first introduced you can find multiple FAQ snippets in Google SERPs but not it has been reduced to only 1 FAQ Snippet in a search results page. Also, your site has to have authority in that particular topic in order for your pages to show up in the FAQ Snippets.
FAQ Schema Example
Below is an example of FAQ Rich Snippets in Google SERPs using FAQ Schema:
FAQ Schema Benefits:
- You can grab more real estate in the search results and can add links to related pages in your site
- Since people can directly see the answers they need in a page, it increases your organic click-through rate. Some users have reported that their click-through rate doubled
- When the FAQ pages with schema are linked back to the author’s property, it contributes to its E-A-T (Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness).
- FAQ Schema works with other Schema, so besides the FAQ page you can add it on any pages such as product pages, blog posts, and more
- If your competitor is not using FAQ schema or if you can make better use of the FAQ schema you will have a ‘competitive advantage’.
